We had to convince Norman that he couldn't have a naked flame like the rest, but we did it in a way it wouldn't hurt his feelings (meaning I didn't mention he'd go up like a Catherine Wheel if the wind changed direction).
Once he realised the power of the torch, it was blinding - especially when you didn't realise you were looking at the bulb end of it whilst trying to find the "on" button in the dark, he was more than happy.
Norman is getting to be quite a celebrity in Coldstream and is basking in the "hello Norman" and "Hip, Hip" comments thrown his way. He is certainly not shy and he's off to watch the fireworks from down by the river - again... there is a river between him and the naked flames (I had to write the safety report for him) and he won't become charcoal overnight unless a wind direction changes and catches him unaware from behind!
